Gameplay

The game operates as a collectible card game. The player has limited options of what he can do each round depending on his accessories, cards, and how much Action Points he has.

The key to victory is that the player must carefully choose a strategy, based on his experience earned in previous battles and the equipment he may use.

Core Gameplay Elements

1. Combat Model

PvP battles are an essential part of Wormfare gameplay and our combat model has some decent features and specs you should know about.

One of the main features of our game is that Wormfare combat involves multiple worms fighting at the same time but in different battlefield lanes. There are 3 lanes: Top, Middle, and Bottom. The lanes do not differ mechanically. Each player has one worm per lane.

The hand of each player consists of 12 ability cards. They can affect rival worms or players directly, as well as buff your worm squad. The players draw cards from their hand at the beginning of each new combat round in such a way that the player always has a set number of cards in his hand at the start of a new round.

Action Points (AP) is an expendable resource required for activating the ability cards. Each card requires various amounts of AP to use. The AP income is stable and equals 2 per round up to a maximum amount of 10 action points at the 5th round.

The Wormfare combat lasts for 5 rounds, in each of which the players activate their abilities cards to attack the opponent, their worms, or for various buffs & debuffs.

The main feature is that opponents don't harm each other during PvP, because the players and the worms don't have health bars, and, basically are unkillable. Instead, with each successful blow players accumulate victory points, and the goal of every combat is to get more than your opponent.

After each combat, the player receives a certain amount of experience points. The more experience the user accumulates - the higher their level. And the higher the account level - the more valuable the rewards which include but are not limited to loot boxes, skins (characters), accessories, and various boosters of different rarity.

2. Card Deck

You can found many different types of cards in Wormfare, each of which provides its unique effect. For example, the card may vary from a simple melee hit to something much more interesting, like weakening your enemy or doubling a worm's hit score.

Cards in the deck are divided by rarities, just like accessories. With each rarity, they become more powerful and animated. The ability cards are obtained by opening the loot boxes.

A player's hand is a collection of 12 ability cards picked from the player's deck before every match. Cards can be chosen during deck building and there can be 3 hands at the same time which can be modified after each game, to change up your play style.

The players can create a lot of different hands and combine them in any way they want and make them fit their style of playing. This way Wormfare never gets stale, and keeps on surprising players with unique combinations of ability cards.

3. Leveling up

Every Wormfare player can level up his account starting from 1 and ending with a maximum of 10. The level of the account determines mainly the rarity of various rewards the player can earn during the game.

Level progression depends on the amount of games played and the number of wins/losses. In other words, the more you play, the more experience you get and, correspondingly, the higher your level and more valuable rewards, which, in turn, can greatly increase your chance of winning your next PvP.

4. Progression Model

Progression is a core free-to-play Wormfare mechanic aimed at receiving rewards by just simply playing the game. The rewards are accessories, loot boxes, skins, and boosters of different rarities.

To progress through it the users just need to play Wormfare. The Progression model is implemented into our game to make it free-to-play friendly, and balanced the way that even players who don't plan on spending any money can gather enough cards and accessories to progress the game's main line further.

5. Character Skins

Skins in general are a cosmetic items which applies various appearances of the player's worms. The type of your worm's skin does not affect gameplay or provide any in-game advantages. Their main goal is a personalization of the Wormfare game experience.

But skins still differ by the rarity level. The rarity level indicates the uniqueness of a specific skin and how difficult it will be for the player to obtain it.

6. Accessories

Accessories are items used to buff your worm's abilities. They are divided by rarities, with each rarity they become more powerful. Some accessories apply stats boost (like damage, resistances, etc.), while others may provide your worm with unique abilities that can't be obtained in any other way. In simple words, the accessories you use will determine which cards you will choose for your hand and use during combat.

7. Rarities

Each skin, ability card, and accessory has its rarity. However, it works differently for each of them. Cards get stat boosts and VFX upgrades with each higher rarity to make them more unique. Accessories increase stats of card effects with higher rarities. Character's skins, on the other hand, don't give any stat boosts and can't be upgraded, they are just visual improvements.

Rarities for Cards

To upgrade the rarity of a card the player needs to collect a certain amount of duplicates of the same card and merge them into a card of higher rarity.

Rarities for Accessories

The player can have only one of each accessory and upgrade them only with the special boosters obtained on certain progression levels.

Rarities for Skins

Character skins cannot be upgraded, they are available in one singular rarity, will it be common or epic, and their rarity cannot be changed.

8. Loot Boxes

A loot box is a reward item that can be purchased with $WOFR, or earned after leveling up, reaching certain progression milestone, or unlocking one of the special achievements. Loot boxes can contain random skins and ability cards of different rarity.

Similar to the accessories and cards, loot boxes have a different rarity. The reward inside the box matches their rarity. The Player can only be rewarded with loot boxes that are equal to his level, with only one exception. The player can try to get an achievement of a higher level, however, the game is designed in such a way that it may be a formidable challenge for most of the players.

9. Achievements

While enjoying our game players may obtain achievements through reaching certain milestones. For example:

  • play 100 matches, deal/resist1000 damage

  • deal/resist 100 damage in a single match

  • win 100 duels

  • reach levels 2-5, etc.

Each achievement depending on its rarity will provide users with rewards in the form of loot boxes of corresponding rarity level.

All the user achievements can be seen in the his public Wormfare profile, and visible to other players. Thanks to the Wormfare Progression model all achievements are balanced in such a way that players will be capable of earning them when they reach the account level that corresponds to the Achievement's rarity.
